Dr Judy Westerhout is the principal dentist at East Perth Dental Centre, establishing it in 1999 alongside her son and associate dentist Dr Kieran Chew. Dr Westerhout completed her Bachelor of Dental Science in 1981 at the University of Western Australia and has since gained over 30 years experience practising family dentistry.

Within the practice, Dr Westerhout focuses on providing quality dental care and treatment to her patients. One of her goals is to assist nervous/anxious patients in overcoming their fear of visiting the dentist by providing a comfortable and supportive dental experience. 

Committed to continuing her dental education, Dr Westerhout remains up to date with the latest advancements in dental technology and techniques by frequently attending courses and training - including travelling overseas to undertake a course in laser dentistry. Her career has also seen her receive the American Field Service Scholarship, receive the West Australian Government Scholarship for Dental Cadetship and hold the position as Former Head of Unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Clinic.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Westerhout spends her time travelling, enjoying walks outdoors, reading and taking part in church activities.

Associate Dentist, Dr Kieran Chew, established the East Perth Dental Centre alongside his mum and principal dentist Dr Judy Westerhout in 1999. Dr Chew graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science and was the recipient of the GD Henderson prize in Oral Surgery.

Dr Chew is dedicated to offering his patients comprehensive dental care in a calm environment with the option of in-house sedation and relation techniques. He also continually pursues innovative training in Australia and overseas to ensure he provides the most advanced care possible to his patients. Some of his additional studies include:

In his free time, Dr Chew takes part in mission work, providing underprivileged children with dental care. During 2012-2015 he was a mission leader and traveled frequently to Vietnam and Cambodia where he provided oral health services to the local communities. When he isn't partaking in volunteer work he enjoys surfing, playing the guitar, rock climbing and studying theology and philosophy.

East Perth Dental Centre welcomed Associate Dentist, Dr Omelia Wan, to the practice in 2002. Dr Wan graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2000 with a Bachelor of Dental Science. Two years after graduating she joined the East Perth practice part time before going full time in 2007.

Dr Wan enjoys the many facets of dentistry, with a particular interest in treating children. Her essay on preventative dentistry for children saw her receive an award from the Australian and New Zealand Pediatric Dental Society. Keeping up to date with the latest dental techniques and technologies, Dr Wan regularly attends continued professional development courses and hopes to complete further training in TMJ disorders.

Within the practice, Dr Wan has a vision for providing the highest quality of care to each and every patient, and helping them to be free of dental diseases and regain their smile. She also welcomes international patients being fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.

Away from the East Perth Dental Centre practice, Dr Wan enjoys travelling and volunteering at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Dr Giancarla ‘Carla’ Graneri graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Western Australia in 2009. Since then, she has worked both in remote and rural areas, as well as in private practice before joining the East Perth Dental Centre team as an associate dentist in August 2020.

Dr Carla’s clinical interests include Dental Implants and full mouth rehab work where she is able to change the lives of her patients with restored smiles and increased functionality. She greatly enjoys the satisfaction of restorative dentistry and being able to get her patients out of discomfort and comfortable in their smiles again.

Outside of work, Dr Carla likes to do yoga and spend time with family and friends as much as possible. A true creative at heart, you will likely be able to find her in her spare time busy crafting, baking, sewing, or painting.
