Dr Judy Westerhout

Dr Westerhout received her dental degree from the University of Western Australia in 1981 and has been practicing family dentistry for over 30 years. She is highly skilled in all aspects of patient care, including preventative techniques, restorative treatments, oral medicine and oral surgery. Her special interests involve aesthetic dentistry for restoring cosmetics and oral function.

Her Mission for Patients

One of Dr Westerhout’s primary goals is to enable phobic patients to overcome their fear of treatment, so that they can restore their self-confidence. She especially enjoys aiding individuals who are medically compromised that need special attention during dental care.

Professional Accolades and Studies

Dr Westerhout’s commitment to continuing education allows her to stay abreast of the latest advancements in dental techniques and technologies. She frequently travels overseas to attend courses on laser dentistry. She is also:

  • A recipient of the American Field Service Scholarship
  • Former Head of Unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Clinic
  • Recipient of the West Australian Government Scholarship for Dental Cadetship

Away From the Practice

In her free time, Dr Westerhout enjoys travelling, taking walks outdoors, reading and multiple commitments related to church activities.

Dr Kieran James Chew, BDSc

Dr Kieran james Chew

Dr Chew (who just happens to be Dr Westerhout’s son) obtained his dental degree from the University of Western Australia. He is a recipient of the GD Henderson prize in Oral Surgery.

He continually pursues innovative training throughout Australia and overseas to provide the most advanced care possible to his patients. Some of his most notable studies include:

  • Las Vegas Institute (LVI) of Advanced Dental Studies (Las Vegas, USA)
  • Nobel Biocare, Straumann and Aesthetic Alliance dental implant programs (AUS)
  • Invisalign® courses and Master Classes (AUS)
  • Oral Sedation Dentistry (Washington DC USA)

One of his primary care goals is to offer comprehensive dental care to his patients in a calm environment, with in-house relaxation and sedation techniques.

In His Free Time

Dr Chew enjoys providing dental care to underprivileged children through mission work. He was a mission leader from 2012-2015 and travels frequently to Vietnam and Cambodia, providing oral health services. When he isn’t busy improving other people’s smiles, he enjoys surfing, rock climbing, playing the guitar and studying theology and philosophy.

Dr Omelia Wan

Omelia received her dental degree from the University of Western Australia in 2000 and joined our East Perth practice part-time in 2002 before becoming full-time in 2007. During her experience as a dentist, she worked in government clinics and private practices.

A Passion for Children and Preventative Care

She enjoys all facets of dental care, including those related to children. She received an award from the Australian and New Zealand Paediatric Dental Society for her essay on preventative dentistry for children.

Her vision is to provide the highest quality of care for everyone, helping them to regain their smile and be free of dental disease.

Omelia has completed many courses in Australia and overseas on advanced techniques and dental technologies. One of her forward-thinking areas of training includes treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems.

Time Well Spent

When Omelia isn’t seeing patients at East Perth Dental Centre, she enjoys traveling and volunteering at Princess Margaret Hospital. She is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.
